Indianapolis Crime Spree

Who is the accused? The victim(s)?  Where did it take place? How long ago?
A 15 year old boy and Sirquain Burr 17 years old

What was the crime?
Murder, Attempted Murder and a string of shootings

How old was the defendant at the time? At the time of the trial?
15 years old and 17 years old

What were the charges?
Murder, Attempted Murder and a string of shootings

Was there any discussion in your articles about the background/history of the defendants? That is, were there extenuating circumstances (poverty, abuse, health, etc.) that may have influenced their criminal decisions? That they both had previous arrests.

What did the parents of the accused have to say, if anything?  The families of the victims?
i did not find anything of what the families had to say

What was the outcome of the trial? The sentencing?

Was there some sort of public comment, outcry, or protest associated with this case?

Since the sentencing, have either the victims or the perpetrators been heard from, and if so, how?

Consider these factors when deciding to charge a juvenile as an adult

"What are the most important factors to consider when deciding whether to charge a juvenile as an adult?  Explain your choices."

There are many factors that one should consider before charging a juvenile as an adult. the first has to be if they are mentally fit to be prosecuted as an adult. That means that they should have a test preformed to see if they are mentally fit. one-third of the eleven to thirteen year old's are suited to be charged as adults and only 20 percent of fourteen to fifteen year old's have the levels of reasoning like stated in the "Many Kids Called Unfit for Adult Trial".Also the motive has to be taken into consideration to find the correct sentence for the juvenile.
Also another thing that should be taken into consideration is how haynes the crime they committed was and if they were not under any type of substance abuse (either drugs or alcohol). their age should also a factor that they consider to have the juvenile tried as an adult. this means that mostly all juveniles know what is right from wrong and it is an important aspect to focused on because someone that knows right from wrong would not be committing crimes nor murdering innocent people. The juvenile should not be placed on Death Row like Mr. Acuna because in that case they would only pay for the crime with their lives and not over time in jail. it is less expensive to kill a person than having then in jail but while they are in jail they have time to think of the wrong they did and all the pain and suffering they caused to many people especially the persons family they killed.
Viewing kids as adults only until they have committed a crime is just not right. i think either look at a kid as an adult since day one or just picture them as a kid until they reach the legal age of adulthood which is turning 18. just because a juvenile committed a crime does not immediately make them adults. this quote does not relate to all teens it is just more of a stereotype "We've created this image that teens are something to be feared" not all teens are as rebellious as the next some actually think twice before taking action.
There are numerous factors that should be considered in order to charge a juvinile as an adult not only by the crime they committed but many more factors.

Teach a text: Dumpster Diving

Dumpster diving is not something I would see myself doing; my mom recently asked me to reach into the trashcan to take out an important piece of paper that she accidently threw away… I refused because I find the trashcan discussing and unsanitary. If it came down to not having another alternative to be able to survive for either not having clothing or food I think I would to a certain extent because in this world only the strong people survive and I am a person that wants to keep living no matter what circumstances I’m in. Many other people in this world live worse than the homeless people we know believe it or not. I think I would feel like people would be judging me all the time but recently I have came to understand that no matter what a person does they will be judged. I believe that a person should do what is best for them and if it means going dumpster diving to survive and not starve.  I would dumpster dive with great dignity!!!

Teach a text: Danielle and Alyssa

In my situation both of my parents have been together for a little bit over 25 years. A marriage will always have a few fights here and there but communication is key like in any other situation and also marriage is nothing to jump into if a person is not ready to be committed to the other person. My family is my mom, dad, my older sister, younger brother and I. My older sister now is married and has two kids of her own. The numbers most of the times don’t show everyone it’s only a few people that they take into account while creating the statistics. The numbers most of the time do not solely rely upon what situation a person is in. If a person wants a bright future that person will try to find an alternative to venting besides finding comfort in any type of substance abuse. There are always ups and downs in life and there are more positive ways to vent than becoming a statistic of substance abuse. Most of the time a person does not develop a substance abuse problem by themselves its peer pressure and the friends a person surrounds themselves with impacts their life, their choices and how they will participate in society.

Translation of Guaman Poma Ch.31

Considered Christian. Primarily serving God and then his majesty and then our neighbors then all evil and harm in a strange land and since you don’t serve our God nor the Virgin Marry or the saints, angels, then how some steal from one another and they are proud and stakeholders and do not keep the commandments of God nor to the Holy Mother Iglecia de Roma.  And you know that there is Heaven and Hell and you don’t walk fairly. And that is how I consider everything in our friendship.

The model of this chapter is the ascetic literature and the religious rules of that time, the moral and religious meditations would be formally organized in “considerations” with frequency throughout the work of fray Luis de Granada, one of the favorite authors of Guaman Poma; see pages 109, 369, 954, 955 and Adorno, 1980 [Bib], [1986] 2000 [Bib]. Guaman Poma is concerned for social behavior, not spirituality like genera shaped that is mimicked and he directs many of his “considerations” to the king of Spain (pp. 947-948) and the majority of his accusations are to the Spanish colonists.

The Things They Carried- Comparative Final Essay #6

The Things They Carried

In The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien is about O’Brien’s experiences in the Vietnam War. It is a complex story where he shares the many things that he encountered while he was in Vietnam. O’Brien shares his reactions from the time he gets drafted to when he is involved in combat to his life while he writes the novel after the Vietnam War ended. Two chapters that have a similar theme and can be compared and contrasted are “How to tell a true war story” and “The man I killed”.

In the chapter “How to Tell a True War Story” where Rat writes a letter to his friends sister because he died.  He wrote that his friend Curt Lemon would always volunteer for numerous things that no other soldier would think of volunteering for. Rat goes on and on about what a good person his friend was. After he sent the letter to Curt Lemon’s sister Rat never got a reply from her. In this chapter it states that a true war story does not give a way of living for others and that if it seems to teach the reader something not to believe it because it is not true because a war story does not teach a moral it just states what happened in the war.

In the chapter “Spin” the war is viewed differently and it is also explained differently from the rest of the novel. O’Brien writes “The war wasn’t all terror and violence.” O’Brien goes on by explaining things that some soldiers would do like two soldiers who would play checkers before they went to bed Henry Dobbins and Norman Bowker it was almost like a ritual for them and then they would dig a foxhole and if they got bored they would play more silent games while the sky changed colors from pink to purple. In this chapter O’Brien also explains to the reader that he is an older man now and that he cannot write on another subject that is not the Vietnam War even though it has been a long time since the Vietnam War.  In this chapter everything that O’Brien explains seems realistic and if it did happen and it does not seem like if it has been made up or even embellished to make the story better.

Many things in the novel of The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien have some sort of truth behind them. Numerous stories that are in the novel sound very realistic and truthful. On the other hand other stories also in the novel seem too embellished or made up with just a hint of truth to them. Some chapters focus on more realistic events that actually happened and others are interesting and eye catching but seem like they are not what happened nor truthful.

Vietnam Exposed

The name of this photograph is 0604.jpg. In this photograph a Northern Vietnamese army soldier wounded badly and he is being treated. The soldiers are not close to a hospital or a place where the soldier can get professional medical treated. So another soldier has to treat him to the best of his abilities.
This demonstrates that life during the Vietnam War was rough. People had to suffer because they could not get medical treatment especially soldiers that got wounded and were nowhere near a place were they could have been treated and have had a greater possibility of survival. Sam tries to help Carl by treating his wounded leg.
Carl had many ambitions in life he wanted to become a doctor before he got drafted into the Vietnam War. He wanted to become a doctor because he saw many of his family members suffer and die from many diseases and he couldn't do anything to help them. He was the most determined to become a doctor when he saw his little sister suffering from malnutrition and a defenseless immune system and doctors were scarce. But all his dreams came crashing down when he was drafted into the war and had to leave his family and put aside all his hopes and dreams for if he would survive the war. Unfortunately he did not have the opportunity to go back to his family and become a doctor because he was killed in action (KIA).
I choose this photograph because the young man that is laying down suffering from a wound looks like he is in a lot of pain fighting for his life because he want to see his family. He looks very young and like if his life is drifting away very slowly and he could see all his dreams flash by him. It seems like if he is determined to fight for his life but at the same time he is in pain and just wants to give up.
