I have been working on my senior
project that is the language development of babies and toddlers. The day
before I went to first start my volunteer hours I went and took my mentor the
slip of paper that said I had taken my TB test and that it had come out negative.
I have gone to do my hours at the pre-school and while I am there the kids have
me read books to them. On Wednesday that was my first day it was scary for me
to go and be around kids I did not know. I think it was also kind of scary for
the kids because at the beginning they just looked at me like if I was a
stranger. After like 10 minutes I felt like they warmed up to me because a
little boy asked me if I wanted to play with him and then after just a few
moments later many kids went up to me so I could read them book and so I did my
mentor who is the pre -school teacher told me that they looked like they warmed
up to me because we did a little circle time for me to read to them while it
was their play time. Since it was a rainy day they were also not able to go
outside and play in the little playground.
I also went on Friday so I could do more
of my volunteer hours and also that day was a rainy day and they did
mostly the same thing except that there was a substitute teacher. They also did
many other activities some kids painted, did collages, or played on the carpet
with the many toys that are there at the pre-school and others went to the
dress up area and became construction workers, firemen or policemen. I really
enjoy going to work with the kids because you seem to see things differently after
interacting with them. That day I also read to them because they went up to me
with many books. I enjoyed reading to them the many books that they have. I am
looking forward to the next day I get to go to do more of my volunteer hours.
