Going for the look

Walking into a big nice or fancy store and just at the moment people look at you they start to judge you. From just a look of one person you know that they have started to judge you based on the way you look. Many retail stores take the incentive to hire pretty girls or handsome guys that fit their image. One retail store in particular is Abercrombie and Fitch seeks the attractive “all American look” which is blue eyes and blond hair. Also most of the time the retail stores look for people that fit into their close if they don’t fit they don’t fit in the store. This is good for the business as far as getting more clientele because people go in to the stores and see attractive people wearing the logo and they want to look like them so they buy it but at the same time it is bad because people that feel offended by the way they look at their employees or their customers they get sued. Hiring because of looks does cause a lot of problems because it lowers people’s self-esteem they get mad and it also raised the issue of discrimination and racism. The retail stores to not discriminate against race, age or gender because that is wrong and that would just cause more law suits no they find a way to justify everything they discriminate against your appearance the way you look dress and talk and that is not illegal according to them which should be because that is still discriminating against people by just hiring attractive people.  The retail stores that hire by looks run into a bunch of problems because people feel they are being discriminated against their gender, age, national origin, race or even disabilities. Looking into catalogs of any sort you always seem to find the people with the “all American look”, young and thin people that seem so fake at times but they are attractive and some people look up to them for a variety of reasons it is weird and rare to see a normal sized girl in a catalog that does not have the “all American look” some people decide not to sop at stores which advertise certain looks and only show one race in their catalogs. We should “never judge a book by its cover” because we do not know anything about their background where they have been or what hardships that have overcame just to make it that far so we should get to know the person before we start to judge them. Having a wider variety of employee in a store would open up the doors to many more customers per store because their race, gender or age would be represented in the store and they would not feel like an outcast inside the store while they are shopping. That would be such a relief for many people to just go in to shop without any worries of what the people inside the stores are going to think about what you are wearing, how old you are or your age. Stores should not hire only based on looks.

  1. I agree with your point about hiring a wider variety of people in a store. The stores think that if they have an 'all-american look' they will draw those types of people, but if they have a variety, wouldn't they draw much more? I like how you said that.

  2. You make a very good point in what you state. We should not be able to judge people on any kind of appearence they obtain and normal looking people should be able to work at a clothing store not only the most attractive ones.

  3. You have a good point in having stores hiring a variety of people might actually help their stores to have more costumers. Stores should stop thinking that everything is having "the all-american look" will make it harder to get more people into their retail store. So you do have a good point in your post because i agree with your point on the subject.
