Racial Profiling in Arizona

Having read both sides to the controversial issue of the immigration law in Arizona I have a better understanding of racial profiling that happens in Arizona today. I read Arizona's SB 1070 Immigration Law Is Unconstitutional by Matthew Rothschild an article against the law. How it is stated in the article Arizona's SB 1070 Immigration Law Is Unconstitutional that it is a cowardly thing to have done having passed the law so the police can have the right to pull over a person because they have the suspicion that they are in the united states illegally and so they can pull them over for that reason and ask for their papers so they can verify the persons citizenship. This law also is unconstitutional because the fourth amendment gives a person the right to feel secure in their person. The Arizona law is not only to deport Latinos but all illegal immigrants without proper documentation but most policemen do racially profile Latinos or African-Americans any person with dark skin and that is a bit racist on their part. The person who would be pulled over is most likely to be from a Hispanic background or African- American background. I think those people that get pulled over and are asked for their documents feel a bit unwanted here in the United States because they are always being racially profiled by policemen or just any other person in general because people may fear for their safety. Many things had surged even before the Arizona law was signed there were protests, lawsuits and boycotts and they are still going on.
I also read Arizona’s Immigration Law Is not Racist by Bruce Maiman an article that if for the Arizona immigration law. They are in agreement with this law because they say that it is not a racist law. This law gives the power to the police to question anyone they suspect might be in the country illegally. The Arizona law will not tolerate profiling because profiling is against the law in Arizona and it will continue to be illegal afterwards.
I have came to the conclusion that racial profiling even though it is illegal in the united states it still happens more than we would like it to and many people are harshly affected by it because at times it is them being racially profiled or someone similar with their characteristics.

  1. You definitely stated your opinion and took a side of the racial profiling issues. It is a good post you and i like it, but i think you could have a said a litle bit more about having racial profiling part of the law in your second paragraph. Then given your opinion why it wouldn't have worked.
    Other wise,
    Good Job :)

  2. I agree with you opinion on this very much.. racial profiling is often used and it is completely unfair for a cop to suspect something just because of their race. In a way it's definitely racist. I really wish cops would be aware of the law and repect it, as they use it on a regular basis, and not violate the 4th amendment for the right to feel secure in their person, and not be judged or assumed by their color or race. Everyone should be treated equally but unfortunatly it doesn't work like that in the united states. Maybe one day it'll be better but until then stay positive.

  3. I agree with your ending, like I clearly stated in my blogpost. I would like to share this link in the comment (http://ic.galegroup.com/ic/ovic/ViewpointsDetailsPage/ViewpointsDetailsWindow?failOverType=&query=&prodId=OVIC&windowstate=normal&contentModules=&mode=view&displayGroupName=Viewpoints&limiter=&currPage=&disableHighlighting=false&displayGroups=&sortBy=&source=&search_within_results=&action=e&catId=&activityType=&scanId=&documentId=GALE%7CEJ3010118286). This is an article that prove how racial profiling and racism undoubtedly exixt. I think that this assignment opened everyone's eyes about reality and the whole class faced the same conclusion: racism is everywhere, and it's a more serious problem than it seems.

  4. Lety it seems that you really understood the articles you read. I agree with you on what you said about racism still in our society. Sadly there still ignorant people out there in the United States that do not have values. People that do not understand that no one is equal. People should not stereotype.
